Happy July 1st, and rabbit-rabbit. I turned my Desperate Housewives calendar to July and found Tom and Lynette. Her quote for the month is, “In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t really need your services in the knocking-me-up department anymore.” I’m sure a lot of parents with tons of kids can relate to that.

We went over to Ernie and Michelle’s house Friday night to listen to them do their podcast. They never did get around to doing it, because it’s been so long since we’ve all gotten together, that we just sat around and talked about stuff. We got to see the baby and he is just adorable. He looks just like Ernie, so there is no paternity test needed in their case. Not that their ever was, but as the old saying goes, “there is no denying that child.”

I’m just sitting down after a full day in the kitchen of cooking and eating. I made all of JR’s favorite foods, and we had a small buffet style brunch. He had some friends spend the night last night, and they locked us parents in our room so they could have the run of the house. I was surprised when I woke up to a semi-clean house, but it was very appreciated. We’ve still got his Oreo pie to eat later though because we filled up on too much food, and didn’t leave room for desert. HA!

free gay e-cards You know I never realized how ecards, and evites were so geared towards heterosexuals. Almost all the “love” cards you see show a man and a woman, but never of the same sex. That’s kind of sad, and I was surprised today to run across a site that offers free gay e-cards. They also have videos that you can send, along with any message you are trying to get across. I think that is really cool, and such a great idea for a website. Kudos to you GoGayCards.com for making everyone feel special on their day of celebration.

Hey, I’m a Mexican now, and this is a new holiday for me! Before I met Michael, it was generally spent drinking and partying, and just another excuse to go out and have fun. Okay, okay…it still is just another excuse to go out and have fun, but it is also much more than that, and I decided I wanted to look further into this holiday and figure out exactly what it all meant.

Cinco de Mayo means “The Fifth of May” in Spanish. It’s a regional holiday, and not even a federal holiday in Mexico. It’s a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. It started with the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Which didn’t really matter because a year later the French occupied Mexico, placing Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico on the throne of Mexico. Not until 5 years later were Maximilian and the French defeated and expelled in 1867.

Oh and don’t you for one minute go thinking that this is Mexico’s Independence Day. So many people in the United States think that, but Mexico’s Independence Day is actually on September 16. In Spanish, that would be called Dieciséis De Septiembre, and just not as damn fun and catchy as Cinco De Mayo.

Don’t I sound smart? Wikipedia can do that to a person.

Hell…it’s really just about the margaritas, and the Dos Equis! Cheers!
