I spent the majority of my day yesterday watching the Live Earth concert, and I really enjoyed it. I caught such acts as Madonna, Pink Floyd, Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, The Police, Dave Matthews Band, and Linkin Park just to name a few. The music was great, but the short films they aired in between acts were just as good. I watched this on the Sundance channel, so I’m not sure if they aired these on the other channels that carried the concert also. They really made me think about our planet, and the crisis that is so apparent.
While watching the show I realized that we had yet to see Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth, so we hopped in the car (yes I know, we should have walked) to go to the video store and rent it. I literally sat there watching it with my mouth gapping open. I always knew that global warming was just the way nature works, but I never realized just how badly the human race has accelerated this process. I was stunned. I wanted to know what I could do, so I went online and did a little research.
Every single one of us can make a huge impact, just by doing a few simple things.
7 Things You Can Do For The Planet
These few simple things that we can do each day, will make a huge difference in our lives, and our children’s lives. It’s really time for you to start doing your part as well. There is so much more I can say on this topic, but I will save it for later, but in the meantime you can sign the pledge, and start making changes.
So tell me. What do you do everyday that makes a difference for our planet?

There is a lot of talk about The Police on their nationwide tour recently. Tickets are selling out within minutes of going on sale. Radio stations all across the country are running their promotions to win tickets, meet the band, have breakfast with Sting, and just about every other marketing idea you can think of. With the release of the Police CD today in the US, and the UK release coming up June 11th, all the rage has been focused on the band, coming back for their 30 year anniversary. And I’m right there swinging from their coat tails.
Like I wrote about a few weeks back, The Police have been around since I was in junior high school, and they have come to be one of the most influential bands of all time. In the early 1980’s there were really just two styles of pop music. You had the group that listened to Lipps, Inc, The Pointer Sisters, Billy Joel, and Michael Jackson. Then you had the group that listened to The Police, Blondie, Elton John, Pat Benatar, and Pink Floyd. I fell into the later group, as did most of my friends. When the 90’s hit it was all about rock alternative, and when I think back on some of the earlier Police tracks, they had that alternative college band vibe to them, and I hear them in a lot of the songs from that era.
Of the 30 tracks on the new Police CD, I would have to say that Wrapped Around Your Finger would have to be my most favorite, as it isn’t easy to pick out just one. Wrapped Around Your Finger came out my senior year of high school on the album Synchronicity. It was a time in my life, I was completely wrapped up in my boyfriend, so it jut fit the scene.
So if you’re in the US, go pick up the CD, and tune into your local radio station for a chance to win tickets to the concerts this summer. Or, click on the image below for your chance to Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live.

The year was 1979, and I was a freshman in high school, in a rural town, in the state of Iowa. There was three guys in my class that had formed a band, and they would either play live at our school dances, or they would spin albums. As a band, they really were not that great. The only thing they had going for them is they were cute as hell, and I always had a small crush on one of them. I can’t point out which one, because one of the members reads my blog, and I don’t want that information to get out.
Anyway…moving right along. I loved when they DJ’d, as they always knew the hottest bands, and had a massive record collection to boot. One of the bands they introduced me to was The Police, and I still love them to this day. Keep in mind, this was 1979, and Synchronicity hadn’t even hit the airwaves yet. They were relatively unknown at this point, yet we were jamming them on our “boom boxes” all the time. They quickly became the most popular band in my small school. Singer/bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland, had taken over a school…literally.
How freaking cool that after 30 years they are back together, and launching a new worldwide tour? I am absolutely thrilled and I can’t wait to get their new Police cd, with 28 tracks of classic jamming Police tunes.

I have an old band that I still follow but I haven’t talked about them in a long time, the Goo Goo Dolls. I have traveled all over the US to see them, and have met some life long friends by doing so. The last few times I have saw them in concert have been when they come to Las Vegas. I just don’t have the time, energy, or the money to travel like I use to. When my radio alarm went off this morning, the DJ was talking about them coming to town again, and where to buy the concert tickets. Normally this news would have made me go crazy, but this time nothing. I don’t even care if I go or not. It’s weird how our lives can change so much.
