I didn’t do one single thing yesterday around the house. I sat on the couch and watched TV, and I read a couple magazines. I finished one book, and started another. It was a very lazy day for me, but apparently I needed it. I feel really good today. Now it’s bust ass time to get all the laundry done, and the cleaning before the week starts all over again.

I’ve got some assigned chores for the boys as soon as they decide to roll out of bed. I even have a couple for Michael. My plan is to get everything done quickly, so I can plant my butt back on the couch for the remainder of the day. HA!

And don’t forget! Tonight is the night Zappos.com is on 60 Minutes.

EDIT - Zappos did appear on 60 Minutes last Sunday night (Nov 11, 2007) Here is a link to the video, enjoy!

Last week while I was home sick Rachel Ray made some French Dip Soup that looked delicious and I knew I wanted to try it. This weekend I started feeling better, so I whipped up a batch yesterday.

Michael and the boys liked it, even one of their friends that was over for lunch liked it, but I thought it was just blah, and not as good as it should have been. I even added Worcester (which is in every French onion soup recipe but this one) and used deli sliced Provolone cheese instead of the grated Parmesan cheese.

I mean it was edible, but just didn’t have that I Can’t Wait To Make This Again factor. Here’s the recipe if you’re interested in making a so-so soup. HA!

Rachel Ray French Dip Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 sprigs thyme
  • 1 fresh or dried bay leaf
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 6 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 loaf crusty bread, torn into bite-size pieces and toasted
  • 1 pound deli-style roast beef, shredded
  • Grated parmesan cheese, optional

Preparation

  1. Heat a deep pot over medium to medium-high heat. Add EVOO, about one turn of the pan, and butter to the pot. Add the onions to the pot as you slice them and the chopped garlic. Season with salt and pepper then add thyme sprigs and a bay leaf. Cook the onions for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until tender, sweet and deep caramel-colored. If the onions are burning in spots before browning all over, add a splash of water and stir every now and then, scraping the bottom of the pot.
  2. Once the onions are tender and brown, add the white wine and scrape up all the brown bits from the bottom of the pot. Add the beef stock and cover the pot to bring the soup up to a quick boil.
  3. Place a few chunks of the toasted bread into each of four deep soup bowls or crocks and top the toast with a handful of the shredded roast beef. Once the soup reaches a boil, remove the bay leaf and thyme sprigs, and ladle into bowls to cover the roast beef. If you like, top it off with a handful of grated parmesan cheese and enjoy!

My husband spent most of his day at work on Thursday being filmed by the 60 Minutes film crew. They are doing a story about Zappos.com culture, and wanted to film one of their parades. Yes, Zappos employees have parades. LOL! These parades are done by individual departments, and they parade all through the company spreading employee moral.

The CEO had a contest to see which department would be picked to do the parade for 60 Minutes, and Web Development, along with HR won the honors. Human Resources did an Octoberfest theme, and Web Dev did a bug theme. Get it? Software bugs? HA!

Here is some pictures of the Zappos parade and the 60 Minutes story is going to air on October 21st.

And I just had to post Zappos.com CEO dressed up in his best woman Lederhosen outfit. How’s that for a boss?

Dexter I don’t have Showtime, although I have every other single channel our cable company offers. They charge an extra $15 bucks to have Showtime, and it’s not part of any packages. In fact when I was asking my cable representative about it, she actually told me since it wasn’t part of a package it was a rip off! For reals!

Anyway, I just heard of a show that’s already starting in it’s second season, and I’m kind of pissed I didn’t know about it. It’s called Dexter and it stars Michael C. Hall, from my all time favorite show EVER, Six Feet Under. The second season starts Sunday, September 30th, at 9PM. Dexter works for the Miami Police Department solving crimes by day. By night he is a serial killer, murdering and chopping the body parts up of all the bad guys. It sounds like my perfect type of show, doesn’t it?

If you’re already a fan, they just started a Flickr group where you can share the Dexter Love, and if you live in Las Vegas, make sure to head down to the Paris Hotel tomorrow and pick up your advance DVD with the first episode of Dexter season 2. They are sending me Dexter Season One on DVD, and I can’t wait to get it! I will make sure to report back with my review.

Do you have Showtime? Do you watch Dexter?

I’ve been reading a lot about the new show Gossip Girl on The CW lately. It seems that everyone who has a blog that I read is talking about it. In fact one of my blogging buddies created her take of the show with a video, which also featured a mention of my blog and I. There she was on film, gossiping away about me and my blog. It was great, and I loved it! In fact, they seriously need to consider her for a role in the show. If anyone can gossip, it certainly is Colleen.

Gossip Girl is pretty much the same thing. It’s about a blogger who lives in the Upper East Side of New York City, and attends an elite school with a bunch of other rich and spoiled teenagers. She spends her days writing about the drugs, sex, and other indiscretions on her blog, which turns their world upside down. The show is based on the novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar, in which I have never read, because teenage drama books are usually not on my library list of must reads, but I will make sure to catch this show to see what it’s all about.

So make sure to set your DVR’s to record Gossip Girl on the CW channel, September 19th (9/8 Central), because you know there isn’t enough gossip in your life that you need to watch more of it on TV as well ;)
