televisionI think I can pinpoint exactly when it happened. I vividly remember moving to Las Vegas from Southern California in 2001 and not having cable. It made no difference to me, I could care a less about TV. My mom would hound me to start watching Sex In The City. My dad would tell me, “You HAVE to watch The Sopranos!” as if my own life depended on it. I just had no desire to sit in front of the television except for the occasional airing Saturday Night Live or The Tonight Show.

After my divorce, I got my own apartment and decided to get cable for “the boys.” The guy at Cox talked me into getting a DVR. Although I didn’t think I would ever use it, I knew the boys might enjoy it, so I said, “Okay!” Well let me tell you…that little box of magic turned me into a TV junkie. I now have two DVR’s so I can get the full benefit of recording 4 different shows at the same time.

My MUST SEE shows: (in no particular order)

  1. Ghost Hunters
  2. Ghost Hunters Academy
  3. Dogs 101
  4. The Haunted
  5. Whale Wars
  6. UFO Hunters
  7. Modern Marvels
  8. Deadliest Catch
  9. Cash Cab
  10. Storm Chasers
  11. The Big Bang Theory
  12. Two And A Half Men
  13. Lost
  14. Desperate Housewives
  15. V
  16. Extreme Makeover Home Edition
  17. The Office
  18. Californication
  19. Dexter
  20. Weeds

INSANE huh? And I stopped at 20! I was too ashamed to keep going. I’m an addict. Are you? What shows do you watch? Do you have a DVR? Do you have two DVR’s? Come on people, I don’t want to feel alone in my addiction. Talk to me please!

Well my dear Jules. I’m not much of a TV fan. Ok, so maybe I do like me a nice show. Yes, I might even have a network of TV related blogs. However, I’m not nearly an addict.

I’ll prove it to you. I don’t have a DVR (although, I’ve wanted to build a MythTV). I don’t have cable. I also am not a fan of any shows on your list, except for maybe Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Interesting huh?

I try not to miss Mythbusters (I’ll be heading downstairs in awhile to watch it). I also like NCIS, but not the LA one. I can probably sit and watch crap on tv more than my husband does, but we don’t have a DVR. I watched a lot more TV when I was single.

I love Californication!!! It’s a great series and David Duchovny plays it so well. Now on its 3rd season. Is the season over by the way? I stopped a few episodes into the 3rd because I got real busy. I did finish the previous 2 seasons. “V” is a remake but I like how it is turning so far. It seems a bit slow though. In the original I think the visitors had already dominated the humans when the show started.

I’m not a big fan of TV, but in your list I remember that I watched Desperate Housewives with my sister. I think its good.

I remember when whale wars came out. I sat and watched a couple hours of episodes. That would be kinda cool throwin stuff on other ships.

My TV went dark when the rules changed. I bought one of those kits to make the change but it didn’t work for me. So now I have no TV. Don’t know what to do.

You’re definitely NOT alone in your addiction. I’ve got the same one. It’s those darn reality shows that get me hooked.

Ok, so I don’t want to make you feel bad but I’m not a TV junkie! In fact, I have 1 TV – no cable, no DVR or anything! Not that it’s bad either way, but I just don’t have time! I only watch The Office and I even forget about that sometimes! Probably because I spend too much time on the computer instead! We all have our weaknesses, right?! LOL
Anyway, just stopping by from SITS to welcome you to the gang! Have a great day.

We finally broke down and got a DVR when our VCR stopped working correctly. I loved my DVR. What is so cool is that I can set it to record a season worth of shows and it records according to show not the time. So when the schedule gets rearranged I still get my show.

I like to watch:
Biggest Loser – that one gets recorded.
Other wise I watch a lot of repeats of CSI, Criminal Minds, Extreme Home Make Over and sometimes Survivor.

Most of the time I will put a DVD in for background noise. Great topic, thanks.

Also, welcome to SITS, it’s a great place to meet new friends. Glad you’ve joined us.

LMAO that you have two DVRs ~ that just cracked me up. I have to admit that I do like the DVR … it’s so much faster to watch a show that’s been recorded and I don’t have to sit there all anxious during the longgggg commercial break.

I really really like Californication and Weeds, I just buy the seasons when they are finished and usually watch them withing a week, I never watch TV though, I refuse to deal with commercials, overall you spend about the same amount watching them as you do your actual shows, that is why it is better just to get the season after it is off of tv, then you can be more resourceful with your time.

MyAvatars 0.2 Kristin on 1 January, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Hi Julie, just came across your great blog and I am cracking up about your shows – I love a lot of the same ones and I am addicted to that darn DVR – love Weeds and especially Dexter. Lost is coming back so that is great. Have you seen the Tudors (another great show) and Glee is awesome. I also could go on and on but then I have to really admit how much I love TV (ok, guess I already have). My father-in-law lived in Henderson for years (still in LV) and my sister-n-law is still there. Such a small small world. Hello from the Cincinnati area! :)
