greenmonstermovement

I first heard about the Green Monster Movement on Facebook when a few of my friends started talking about them. The movement was set into motion by Angela who is the author at Oh She Glows when she tried to create her own smoothies.

My healthy living website, Oh She Glows, is where I first started writing about my first shot at making a green smoothie, that I called ‘Green Monster’. Let’s just say my first attempts did not turn out that great! ;)

I blend together kale or spinach, milk (almond or soy), fruit, seeds, powders, etc. and come up with some amazing Green Monster drinks! I have noticed a HUGE increase in my energy, along with a decrease in cravings for sweets. My skin has also become more clear and my hair and nails started growing like weeds!

I’m not a huge spinach fan, so I wasn’t sure how I would like these, but everyone was trying them so you know I had to try them also. We made the ‘Amazing’ Cantaloupe-Banana Green Monster and it was delicious. And you have to believe me when I say you can’t taste the spinach in them AT ALL, but you’re getting all the Popeye strength and energy from it.

‘Amazing’ Cantaloupe-Banana Green Monster

  • 3 cups organic spinach
  • 1-1.25 cups milk (your choice of cow’s milk, soy, hemp, almond, rice, etc)
  • 1 tablespoon flax (optional)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup juicy cantaloupe
  • 1 scoop Amazing Grass Wheat Grass
  • ice

We used 2% cow’s milk, and I didn’t have any flax or wheat grass. (Mental note to get those two items) We layered the ingredients like she suggest, with the heaviest ingredient on top, and the light spinach leaves on the bottom.

They come out a beautiful green color, ice cold and ready to drink.

Yummy! I can’t wait to make another batch tomorrow morning.

I love green smoothies! I was really apprehensive when I first made one with banana and spinach. It was bright green and while it smelled like banana, I wasn’t convinced that I wouldn’t taste the spinach.

Fast forward almost 2 years and green smoothies have replaced coffee as my morning ritual and I can’t imagine life without my daily dose of green! (More energy, less cravings for junk food, lost 30 pounds – the list goes on…)

When I saw the title to this post, there’s only one thing I thought of. Being from Massachusetts, of course, I thought of the scoreboard at Fenway Park, affectionately called the Green Monster. I like the Green Monster. But not sure I could drink a green healthy beverage.

I love green smoothies. Today I went hard core and I “juiced” broccoli, carrots and cucumber. Then, I transfered it to my blender and blended in an avocado, juice of a lemon, clove or garlic, and a pinch of Himalayan crystal salt. So nutrient dense and creamy!

Cheers,
Kristen

Thanks so much for posting this, Jules! I’m totally going to try these – though I may have to get my mom to mail some of the ingredients from Dallas!! LOL! I love what she says about having energy and all that – I could definitely sign up for that!

Popeye strength and energy… I love it! I have to say, I was half expecting to find some scary highly caffeinated energy drink but it looks like you’re smarter and certainly wayyy more creative than that. Gotta try this freakish concoction, it looks fabulous!
