The topic of garage storage came up this morning while I was talking to Brett on Skype, so I decided to get a picture of the my two car garage, sans car.
We seriously need to get out there and do something with it. Maybe some orange aluminum cabinets would do the trick! Anyone out there want to come help me get this garage organized in the next couple weeks? No? Yeah, I thought so. HA!

Brett – that’s something that came to me through marriage.
If you look at the high res image on my Flickr stream you will see that it’s held together by a bungee cord and duct tape.
I won’t allow it in the house, and he won’t allow me to throw it away.

We had a neighbor that used to specialize in furniture repair. He restrung the seat and back with new (whatever that weaving stuff is).
Looked great, we sat in it and one of the legs cracked.
Never had the heart to tell him that it was toast.

Had to organize the garage a few weeks ago, you would be amazed what you could fit in some large cabinets. Not saying it was any fun at all but once you get it done it will feel good.

Hmmm. Open shelved store the most. But no matter how well stored, perhaps there is just a bit too much stuff? I am learning to just throw stuff out or find someone who wants it–not hold onto it.

OMG! Cant believe how messy that is hehehehe. Good luck cleaning it out

Hey Julie,
I got 2 ideas – 1 includes a bulldozer and the 2nd has a match & a can of gas.
For a case of beer I bet you can find someone to do the job.
Fast and easy!

It look so messy. I think you put the cabinet inside. Clear and throw out all unnessary thing to make is organize.

Haha… mine looks the same but with more stuff and my car! We have floor to ceiling shelving on 2 walls (packed with boxes) and the floor is piled high. It’s so difficult to part with your ‘stuff’ isn’t it?

lol…. we all have moments where are Garage can look like this.
Tips
1) Throw out junk
2) Have a garage sale – use money to buy storage bins. I have clears ones. For any chemicals, have a metal cabinet
3) Donate anything that does not sell
4) Think high – take advantage of the height and stack up
I have a three car garage and without my storage bins and shelves, it would look like that. or at least I would fee that way.

Ha! I’ve had a garage looking like that 3 times since living here. Here is what I do: take 1 quick look and put things I want in the corner. Then I call “Got Junk” and they come and take the rest! They even sweep out the garage. It’s quick and easy!

My garage constantly looks that bad. Best of luck with cleaning that mess. More junk just always seems to pile up.

I have 2 garages. His and hers. His has upstairs stand up room. Nice if you could walk up there. We both have room for our cars. It doesn’t look bad, have lots of bins and shelving, just haven’t gone through stuff since we moved 2 years ago. Didn’t do it before then either.some stuff might be 20 years old. I need to get busy!

I made a habit of taking stuff we’re not using down to the thrift store about once a month and I go to the recycling center almost every week – and our garage comfortably fits both cars…
I’d come and help you for a few hours, Julie – if only you were closer!

I just see that and cringe, not because it’s a mess but because our garage is worse. And we are planning an international move which means we will be paring things down quite a bit!

I’d be afraid to take a photo of mine. We can fit my car in it, but barely. We also have an attic, closets and cabinets that are stuffed. I don’t even open the doors.
