I haven’t made Christmas cookies since my kids were really little. Normally I just buy all the goodies at the store and call it “homemade.” In my desire to heat up my house I decided I should get my oven running and make something in the process.
I was going to do the regular old sugar drop cookies, and then I realized that I had cookie cutters of my Mother’s that I used with her to make cookies. They might even have been handed down from my Grandmother to my Mother, but regardless they are old and quite possibly considered vintage.
Does anyone know anything about these vintage Christmas cookie cutters? They are very light weight aluminum and they have no manufacturer label or stamp. From doing the math, I would be safe to assume that they are over 50 years old.
EDIT: Wow, while looking them up online they seem to be circa 1930. That would put them at almost 80 years old!
Here are some pictures of me using the cookie cutters, and here are the final product, decorated cookies.
Pretty cool huh?

Those cookie cutters are adorable! They’re so much more detailed than most of the cookie cutters you find in stores today.
That is so awesome, Julie! I love having stuff of my grandmothers’ – it is so special…in the oldness…and in the family history …all of it.
Some of my gma’s kitchen stuff, I imagine her life and what it was like when she was using them!

Jenn – they do have a lot of detail, but I plan on slathering them in icing, so it won’t show. HA!
Lisa, there is one thing I wish I had of my Grandmother’s and that was her Sunbeam malt maker. It had the long stir thing, and you put the metal cup up in it to stir the milk and ice cream. Man I thought that thing was so cool when I was little.
They are so sweet – and dainty – not ‘supersized’ like the ones I just bought! I guess people had less in the 30′s and ate less too – so quality not quantity counted.
I hope you’ll show us the cookies when you’re done – can I come help you decorate them?

Heather – I will most defiantly update with pictures of the cookies, and of course you can come and help decorate them! Bring food coloring so I don’t have to run down to the store please.
They look just like the ones that my mom and my grandmom had when I was little. That would have been over 50 years ago.
Thanks for posting a picture of them. It really stirred up some memories!

You’re welcome Charlotte. That’s how I felt when I dug them out from way back on the cabinet. It’s been “years” since I looked at them.
Wow .. don’t let my wife see those, she’ll want a set too!

Owen, I actually found the exact ones online for only $4.00 a set!
I love the angel but it looks like the wings might tend to come off? Do we get to see the cookies?

Vein, I remember the angel as being my favorite one as a child, and I always ate her wings off first. Hmmmm
I will post pics of the cookies, yes!
Aw how cute! I want to make biscuits today, and this has inspired me to actually *do* it.
My mom has had those same cookie cutters for years and years. I think they were my grandmothers before that.
Very cool!

I have not seen this kind of cutter before in my country but it truly look unique.
Wonder how’s the copy will look like from this cutter. Can’t wait to see your pic.
My mom has the EXACT same set, and they belonged to her grandmother. I think there’s even a Santa. By my math, that would put them around 1929-1930.

Wow! Those look exactly like the ones my mom has and we used when I was little!
I also like to bake to “heat up the house” a little. Lately it has been warm in Chattanooga, so it isn’t really needed, but I think in the next few days I might have the oven on for something.

Great cookie cutters Julie. They remind me of the ones my grandmother used to use. I have no idea when she bought them but it seems you have found out how old they are already. I hope you had fun making cookies. We did ours yesterday and the kids had a blast.
Those cookie cutters are cool! What a treasure to have them in your family.

I have the exact same set and I just washed them now. They were my grandmother’s, then my mother’s and now mine. I have enjoyed those shapes for 43 years. Glad to know they are still out there!
Wow 80 yr old cookie cutters. The thing is everything is so cheaply made now the cookie cutters we have today will not even survive 30 years more than likely.

We’ve got a set of these floating around in our family too… will have to see if I can arrange them “floating” their way into my possession.
Your grandma’s malt maker sounds like an immersion blender. Unless it was the sentimental value of your grandmother’s particular one that you were wanting.

I think you did a great job decorating. I think the Scottie dog is cute, I’ve never seen a Scottie dog cookie before.

Oh, fun! My mom and I used to make cookies at the church when I was little with cookie cutters like these. This brings back so many memories.

There were many cookie cutters produced in the 20′s and 30′s after automation made the price of producing them much less. They were usually purchased through mail-in catalogs, like Sears & Roebuck, individually.
