Yesterday was such a fun and exciting day with almost 4 inches of snow falling in Henderson (Las Vegas), NV that I didn’t have much time to blog about it. I was running around taking pictures and videos and just enjoying playing in the snow with my family, and pets.
I use the FireFox plugin called Forecast Fox, and yesterday was the first time I saw the word snow next to a snowflake icon. It was just crazy for us here in the desert!
Our local school district even called a snow day today for the first time since 1979, even though the snow stopped falling over night, and was almost all completely melted this morning. The only reminder of the snow storm we had yesterday is the snowmen in the front yards of all my neighbors, and the wet and muddy mess that is everyone’s yard now.
I did have a casualty of the snow storm and that was my beautiful Eucalyptus tree. It lost several large branches from the weight of the snow on them, and that made me sad. I love that tree; the smell is amazing, but I’m sure it will grow those branches back.
For more pictures of the snow storm along with videos I did you can visit my Flickr set called Las Vegas Snow Storm.

Looks like fluffy snow, too!
We’re all ready for the snow/ice storm that’s coming into Chicago tonight. I swear I’m going to be living somewhere warm this time next year.

Corrin, it was like the “real thing” I remember from the midwest
I talked to my dad today in Iowa and he was telling me about the storm you’ve got coming. Stay safe and warm!

Nice pictures and liked your snowmen too..

I’ve been looking at pictures all day of the storm. Most just showed the snow. I can only imagine the damage to trees and plants that are not able to withstand this kind of anomaly. Henderson doesn’t need any further loss of vegetation.

Good thing we don’t have a snow here in our country (Philippines) …

Mike, they did a short story on the news about all the tree branches that broke, mostly on the Mesquite trees.

Bhing, it can be fun every couple years like this!

I saw this on the news and it amazed me. I don’t know if it is global warming or what but it sure was weird to see all of that snow falling on the strip and throughout Las Vegas.

I must be blind! I don’t see the snow…oh there it is a little on the roof. I am sitting in 8″ of it right now. Ok not ‘sitting’ literally in it, but you know what i mean!

Sounds like you and your family made the most of the ‘snow day’.
Hmmmm… I wonder where the ‘global warming’ is taking place? Not in North America this month
Very sad about your eucalyptus tree…

Here in Maryland we have not had any as of yet but the fact that you received snow makes me wonder what is going to happen during our winter. Normally for the past years it has been mild, but maybe this year we will get a big snow storm or at least a day off work.

Nash, I’m sure it has to do with global warming. Snow storms, ice storms, tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, etc. 2008 was a big year for the US and mother nature.

Thanks Mark, and that’s crazy you had pictures in your UK papers. HA!

Snow in Las Vegas is wild! It’s kind of fun though. It’s always fun to hear about snow stories from places that never get snow!

Ya..You even made National news with your snow. Up here in Washington we have been dealing with it since Wednesday. Down in the teens and low 20′s too. Just got done with 5 inches that greeted us Thursday morning, then iced over. Snowing now, get this, we are looking at 12-19 inches in the next 24 hours. That’s rural …no in the mountains! We will be home bound. Thanks God for generators!

Is a snowfall really that much of a rareity in Las Vegas? It comes as a surprise to me really as I have never been to Vegas.
