And there won’t be snow in “Henderson” (Nevada) this Christmas time…The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life…

Band Aid were a British and Irish charity supergroup, founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia by releasing the record “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” for the Christmas market.

Every Christmas, the video Do They Know It’s Christmas Time this is the most played holiday song in my house. I just love the song and everything it stands for.

I’ll give you bonus points for naming the 80’s stars in this video in my comments, and super duper bonus points for naming my favorite artist in the line up.

*Hint: he’s Irish and was born with the name of Paul David Hewson on May 10th 1960.*

Bono!

Can you name the line up for the Live 8 version that was done? I know it starts with Chris Martin from Coldplay and somewhere in there is Daniel Bedingfield. Maybe I’ve set myself the challenge now lol!

I’d have to watch the entire video again to name all of the stars, don’t have time this morning, but this is also one of my most fave songs for xmas. I still get all goosebumby when in the long version, the musicians speak, the music hollows out to a drum and synthesizer beat, and you get this feeling of fear. Very powerful song.

But as for your other question, Paul David Hewson is Bono, another of my fave singers ever.

I bet you love Bono..lol. I saw 2 minutes, but needed to get back to work, but here goes… John Taylor (my fave), Sting, Phil Collins, Paul Young, George Michael, Boy George, Simon LeBon, the guy from Spandau Ballet…lol.

I agree it probably is the best Christmas song of all time and for such a good cause too! I don’t know if he is Irish but Paul Young could be the one. I think Boy George and George Michael are probably non-starters LOL!

[...] Just found this Christmas song on JuliesJournal and wanted to add it to this post. A bit off topic, but it’s very cool. [...]

Only recognized two LOL, but the song is great! I even updated our today’s post to reference yours and added the video. Happy Holidays! or “Merry Christmas” is that’s not not politically correct LOL!

Well, I surprised myself by recognizing Sting, Boy George, Phil Collins and Brett Bumeter. That is him, right? The guy with the ponytail – I KNOW it is!!!

I love the song and remember when it came out, but love the awesome 80’s hair even more – mine was just as big :)

Great song and for a great cause. Although my favourite Christmas track is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues.
