Christmas and Cats Every year when I put up our Christmas tree I am immediately surrounded by my cats. They are the most curious animals I have ever seen.

They have to snoop around and smell every single tote we bring out of the garage. They climb in and out of every tote that I open.

And my little cat even climbed up in the branches of the artificial tree and walked around in it while I was trying to put it all together.

This year was no different than the past years, except I decided to get some pictures of them doing it. Here’s LBK climbing around in the branches.

I got some cool pictures of LBK and Dizzy (she’s my 20 pound cat who needs diet supplements) messing around with the lights as I was checking to make sure all the bulbs worked.

And here is Spider and LBK relaxing under the finished tree. I give them about 3 days and they will have all the ornaments pulled off it!

If you want to keep the kitties off the tree, spray it with a citrus scent. Or, leave some citrus peelings around the perimeter. If you don’t believe me, peel an oragne in front of one of them.

Oh REALLY witchypoo? I never knew that, and will try it RIGHT NOW!

Cats are really cute when they’re curios about things. Whenever I’ve gone to groceries and put down the baskets, they start smelling and clawing some of the stuffs in there.

My kitten sized baby kitty Shahiro did the same thing when I put up the tree, started bringing out decorations and other stuff.
Cats are just fascinated with that kind of stuff.

Interesting about the citrus scent!!

Back when my family had cats, the trees definitely were not safe during the holidays. Broken glass ornaments everywhere!!! oh, it was madness!!!

Wow… is that your house? That is gorgeous! I love the red walls and staircase. Amazing!

You kitties certainly look like they are up to no good. We finally put our tree up tonight and hubby asked me if I thought our little one would pee on it. haha

They are just lovely… If only I had a cat to warm up my home;)

They are curious pets for sure. However, makes me wonder do cats have a particular liking for Christmas trees & Totes?

MyAvatars 0.2 Loretta on 13 December, 2008 at 8:30 am

The citrus trick does work, it keeps Moe out of the kitchen and out of the christmas tree when he’s driving me crazy. Of course it helps to have some fruits laying around to zest, and it probably helps to know where the zester is.

It’s hilarious when we have fresh oranges and the kids all grab one after school. The cat hides for hours! Normally after school he is all over them for snuggles -lol-

I agree with you that cats are the most curious animals. I have 2 Persian cats and they are always curious with lots of things. When we moved in to a new flat, they would check out every box we put inside the house. The other cat even get inside the box and slept there while I was busy arranging our stuff. I remember my friend once suggested that I give my cats some catnip…but I think my cats don’t need catnip anymore…they are always energetic and always make me laugh because of their curiosity.
