White Possum-First Victim of Global Warming Scientists say a white possum native to Queensland’s Daintree forest has become the first mammal to become extinct due to man-made global warming.

The White Lemuroid Possum is a very rare animal who lives 1000 meters up in the forest of Queensland, and it’s not been seen for nearly three years.

The temperatures in the region have risen up to 0.8 Celsius, and it only takes four or five hours of temperatures above 30 Celsius to kill the White Possum.

While you might say, “Big deal, it’s just a stupid possum who was highly vulnerable to the living conditions in the first place,” it’s still a big discovery towards the scientific evidence that global warming is a real and dangerous threat to mankind.

I REALLY don’t want to be blogging every other month about an animal that has become extinct due to man-made global warming, so please take it seriously and do your part to keep our world a green planet.

That’s really sad. :( I think what’s so horrible about global warming is that there are so many little things everyday individuals like you and I can do to help reduce it!

Jenn – exactly, and it’s also helpful to be aware of the effects. Feel free to tweet this post. Maybe if more people are aware of what is happening, then they will step up and do their part.

So sad :( It was a cute possum, too. Not the ugly kind we have in my region… I really wish people would wake up about global warming – and just the environment in general.

Everyone could do little things like turn their car off when not driving, seal the front door better, recycle everything that can be recycled, use energy saving appliances and light bulbs, buy local produce, products and services and on and on and on…

One small animal is going to turn into many more if we continue to live as we do now. It’s only when we start to realize the effect we each have on the environment that we will make changes.

It is just so sad knowing that there are a lot of living and non-living things affected with global warming..

I don’t know why there are people who are deaf to listen and blind to see on what’s happening in the environment..

That is so sad to hear! Until we do something about the unrestricted growth in the human population I fear that many more will become extinct.

Bhing – the argument I have come up against is that global warming is a natural event. I can’t argue that, but man-kind is accelerating that “natural” process.

Funny. They say that 2008 was Australia’s coolest year of the century with an average temp of 22.18C compared to 22.48C in 2007, 22.28C in 2006 and 22.99C in 2005.

Its so sad! I’m hoping that by living green, we can reduce the environmental impact on our planet.

It’s amazing how ridiculous you people are. Global warming really doesn’t matter. Jumping on this media bandwagon is a waste of your time. Assuming the global temperature is affected by humans (dodgy at best), there are more pressing matters, like overpopulation. Buying better light bulbs isn’t going to change anything. We either stop reproducing, abandon society, or let it run into the ground. Considering not a single person hear is going to do the first two, you should stop pretending that you’re not adding to the third.

There are more victims from global warming. If mankind pushes far enough, we will be the ultimate victim. Everyone needs to live sustainably.
