I’ve been on cleaning spree today, trying to get the house in order for the upcoming holidays. My plan is to go from room to room, and cleaning said room like it’s probably never been cleaned before. This includes moving all the furniture out and starting with a bare room.
I use to be severely OCD when it came to cleaning until I realized that between the ages of 25-35 my life was spent making sure my house was spic and span. Now that may have been nice for my family to have a clean house, and my guest always marveled wondering if I had a maid, but I now realize that I missed out on a lot of fun shit. Had I not been so concerned with a sparkling kitchen floor, I might have enjoyed life more. I’m really happy I got over that, but now my friends think I’m a slob.
I started with the family room and used a steam cleaner to clean the carpets that I borrowed from Steve and Lola, and that thing is a BEAST! It works really nice and it’s so easy to operate. I need to spend some money and buy one for myself.

I’m really happy with the carpet results and now since the room is empty I might just paint. The white walls just drive me crazy!
Oh and while waiting in the drive-thru at McDonald’s this morning for breakfast (I couldn’t cook for my family because I had to save my energy to clean for them) I started cleaning out my car. I was glancing over our cheap auto insurance policy and thinking that we are very lucky our driving records are so good, and that we pay just pennies for full coverage. Okay I drive a 1999 Honda Civic, but still!
You know you want to fly out to Texas and steam my carpets for the holidays.

Laurie – no, not really
Painting next…you’re making me feel so lazy…
I read recently you are supposed to leave the dust so you can write ‘I Love You’ in it – just so your family knows you care… or something along those lines.
I thought it was a good reason!

I don’t mind cleaning mine, but I have so many things to sort through it takes a few days. My room is so crowded and small. It looks good after it’s clean, but it’s hard for me to keep it that way. My mother’s always asking me to clean it, and I do, but why does she care? It’s not like I’m messing up her room any. It’s my room. But, I “try” to keep it clean so I don’t have to hear her.

Oh, so you’re just going to guilt me out now, huh? I can *see* my carpet…that’s a good start, right?

We scrubbed everything down this weekend, too. I wanted to do a really good cleaning before the house was all closed up for the winter. It didn’t take long, but I was totally grossed out at how dirty our house really was.

I used to be the same way – I had to have everything spotless and clean or I haven’t been able to do anything else before straightening everything else… ![]()
Thank God I’m not slaving away like that any more!
I do think, however, that cleaning the house top to bottom before holidays is a great idea!
You can’t beat a steam cleaner for getting carpets like new. We hired one last time and the results were amazing. Cheap car insurance is great! Why should we pay for other poeples bad driving!

I am a complete clean freak… I’m surprised I don’t own one of those, lol. I spend every Saturday afternoon scrubbing my bathroom and kitchen and vacuuming the floors and cleaning the mess my husband makes throughout the week. It’s terrible. Your floors look great!

I love it when the carpets are freshly cleaned. And then of course some pup needs to make them smell like home again ugh. Well…if your friends thought you were a slob, ask them if they have come to visit you or your house.

Heather – I had never heard that, but I just might try it out
Clairvoyant Magda – she’s just trying to raise a responsible adult, now go clean your room!
cchiovitti – did you get any cleaning done yet?
corrin – I finished the family room and the living room, but today I am doing our bedroom. The amount of dirt and dust on the floors behind the furniture are just disgusting. I am VERY grossed out by it.
daria369 – I hear ya!
Mark – some of the spots did come up, but more importantly the DIRT came up. The water was just black and so nasty!
Sadie – I use to be that way. My bathrooms right now are in need of a good cleaning also!
mistipurple – no I’ve become a slob now, trust me! LOL!
TheSnackHound – they let me borrow their carpet cleaner, so that’s a start! LOL!
cady – it’s a chore, but they look so nice now! 2 rooms down 5 more rooms to go.
