Try applying to another store, but this time leave off most of your experience. Should work.

I wouldn't think it's worth your time for a business license doing gift wrapping. You can do it as a sole propietorship without problems. Worst case, some nut job could sue you for a broken gift which they wouldn't do since legal fees would be as much as the cost of the gift.

Karen - I'm not so sure about decorating the house thing. I don't think I'm very good at that. But then again if it's not my money that might be fun!

corrin - I am totally looking into doing this, but I don't think I can get the business license in time, plus the cost of insurance might be hard to come up with.

Heather in Beautiful BC - just got back from that exact job fair (it was yesterday), but it didn't seem like anyone was interested in hiring on the spot. I gave out a lot of resumes though!

I may submit this to our local news station. I see this topic is getting a lot of national coverage right now from the New York Times to the Los Angeles Times.

I think you should go to people's houses and wrap presents for them! They tell you the color scheme, you bring the supplies, and charge for materials plus an hourly rate. I'd love to have someone wrap my presents and put them right under the tree looking pretty!

I think your would-be-boss was afraid that you'd do such a good job you'd take their position. I've gotten similar responses from a lot of jobs around this town and I think that they don't understand that a lot of people are taking pay cuts just ot make it through the season.

Your gifts also look great!
