I’ve been having a blast with my new XShot2.0 that Drew gave me at Blog World Expo. When I pull it out to take pictures with it all I hear is, “OMG…where did you get that?” Everyone seems to really think it’s a cool idea, and they are super surprised when I tell them it’s only $29.95. Your camera just screws on the end of it, then you use the self timer feature.
Here I am showing Michael Brito how to use it, and here is the end result picture. He was stoked about it, so Drew gave him his last one.
The XShot extends out to 37 inches, and closes to 9 inches. It’s small enough to carry around in my bag with my camera so I can have it with me where ever I go. I tried to get this shot of these home theater sconces at the place we were the other night, but they came out really blurry. You really need a steady hand to use this.
Here I am taking a picture of myself from above.
And Michael and Jon taking pictures from below.
It’s a pretty cool toy, and I’m happy that I finally got one to play around with. I just need to practice keeping my hand steady.

I need to get one of those for my camera bag! That thing is awesome!
John, for less than $30 bucks it’s totally worth having!
yeah, this thing totally rocks! I should have purchased one of these things a long time ago. Always thought it would be useful, but thought it might be a little vane to buy something that you use to photograph yourself, but the reality is that its great for doing web videos with good cameras, and like you show in this post, even better for taking a picture of two people together when you only have 2 people present!
I bought an xshot months ago, and I’ve really never played around with it. I was having a hard time taking good pictures with it, but I really ought to get some practice because I always think the pictures other people have taken with theirs look awesome. I’m a weakling though and had a hard time keeping my camera from jumping all around when I was holding it out like that.
Brett, it’s GREAT for when you want to video an interview, and it’s just the two of you
Jennifer, I have a tough time holding my hand steady. I should probably lay off the coffee. HA!
Very cool follow up tip Jules! That said, it also reminds me of that QVC viral video where the guy calls up to when they are selling Dell computers on the air. The host asks him what he uses his Dell computer for and he says, ‘its good for everything, but mostly I use it for porn.’
lol
Brett – HA! I remember that video.
Wow Julie, this is a neat thing and all, but there’s no way I could take shots that make me look as good as you do!
cchiovitti – awww, you’re too sweet. Thanks!
Hey Julie,
I’m trying the comment thing again. I am glad that you like the XShot and I look forward to more pictures from you.
Drew – yay, it worked!!!
So basically, it’s a small monopod that fits in a bag. Regarding the blurry pics in low light – crank up the ISO. You’ll get grain, but less blur. Grain/Noise can be reduced in PS, blur…not so much.
All I can think of is, “It takes a steady hand…BZZZZT! Butterfingers!” Haha!
That’s a really cool toy, though! I want one!
Lauras last blog post..I’m like the white rabbit.
Oh wow .. that looks cool. I want one, I want one, I want one
Owens last blog post..Even cheaper noise-canceling headphones
DT – pretty much, but a lot cheaper than the monopod’s on the market now!
Laura – HAHAHA!
Owen, it’s a super fun toy!
It looks like the boys had a good time playing with it too
Lisas last blog post..Vlane & My Prius Poll
