Rick Sanchez is embracing social media, and is now using Twitter as a way for viewers to ask him questions, live on the air. High five Rick!

He actually used my question tonight, but I was kind of freaked out by his answer.

Rick Sanchez CNN

My question: “What are all the evacuees doing with their animals? Is there also some type of pet evacuation plan?”

His answer: “The buses would not let people take their pets, and that some of them left their pets with their neighbors.”

Uhhhh…didn’t those neighbors evacuate also?

Now I’m all freaked out that tons of pets were left behind, and that makes me super sad.

You can follow him on Twitter also.

During Katrina, I know there were a TON of ‘relocated’ pets because owners could never be found.
Terribly sad.

I swear I saw something on ABC about a women who only left because they allowed pets on the buses.

They also made a huge deal out of that fact and that they were even evacuating animal shelters.

Now I’m confused.

I saw that interview also. There must have been some buses allowing pets to come aboard. I would be sneaking mine in inside a big purse!

There is no way I would evacuate without my dog and my turtle. I’d start walking.

If it were my pet I would stay behind with it. Animals do have a kind of 6th sense though and seem to know what to do in these situations. hopefully it will not be as bad as expected.

Holly – That’s good to know!

Karen – The more I thought of his answer last night, the more I thought that couldn’t be RIGHT! Maybe some buses WERE allowing pets. One can only hope.

MyAvatars 0.2 Jules on 1 September, 2008 at 10:03 am

Corrin – me too! I mean I know most people have cars and left, but I still wonder about the ones that had to rely on the buses. There had to be buses for people with pets also!

MyAvatars 0.2 Jules on 1 September, 2008 at 10:04 am

Mark – I would be too scared to stay behind. I would get out with my pet one way or another…even by walking.

Julie, I do know that the Denver Dumb Friends League has just accepted a large number of cats directly from animal shelters in LA which were evacuated. Next week I’ll be contacting them to see if they need any more families and will welcome a couple of them in to my home. I have 2 cats, but my home is more than large enough to take in a couple more who need a good family. They were very quick to evacuate the shelters when the orders came in. I also saw photos taken yesterday of the National Guard assisting a resident in evacuating their pets – 2 guardsmen were each carrying pet carriers out of someone’s home.

cchiovitti – VERY GOOD news! Thanks for letting me know :)

Rick was wrong. I saw people taking their pets on buses on CNN. But I know a star now!

How about a stimulus, bailout, the taxpayer gets relief too package?

Why am I bailing out my creditors?

If the taxpayers of America are expected to recapitalize the US and possibly the World financial markets why not try a semi-market based solution? Allow the taxpayer to de-leverage some of their personal debt, while bailing out creditors and infusing capital into the market.

How?

Everyone that has paid payroll taxes in anyone of the last 5 years gets a $10,000 check from the pool of money to bailout Wall Street to use to pay PRINCIPAL only on home loans, credit card debt or student loans.
Any excess can be used in a retirement account or other long-term deposit.
This will help with recapitalization, the short/long issue, and to help Americans
get out from some the mountain of debt we have taken on as our incomes have stalled.

America taxpayers need to feel they are getting something personally out of this.
I don’t own a home. Why am I helping my landlord?

Then the government wont be picking the winners and losers all by themselves.
Lets show some faith in Capitalism. I believe we are fighting feudalist that use terrorism to drive out capitalism and all the freedom to choose for your self that
it brings.

This is a very American solution.

Me, as an individual, I get to reduce my personal debt or increase my savings.
If I get to pay down some debt that frees up money every month to cover the higher cost of living while wages stagnate or slide. This will act as a stimulus.

The banks and financiers will have to pay the price of the lost interest on the outstanding debt but Tough Rocks. You went out on limb that apparently did not exist, with all our money looking for treasure you planned to keep. And now all the sudden you expect everyone to pay to build you a limb, and pay you to help us help you get rescued. Stop whining, you all caused this mess.

Capitalism trends toward privatizing the profits while it publicizes the costs.
The role of government is to prevent the publicizing of costs.
Attention: John McCain, this is how you limit CEO pay in a Capitalist system.

We are still Capitalists, aren’t we?

The auto bailout/loan program has been applied for by a number of energy and alternative energy car companies besides GM and Ford so don’t kill it off as there are some great companies in there too that you don’t hear about in the news…..

Bailout 2008, a poem by David Jeffrey

Like a bloodied warrior,
laying broken and torn.

Like a dying soldier, hopeless and forlorn.

But the blood, it be green,
the color of money.

And the soldier is an economy,
and it is anything but funny.

Broken are it’s people and shattered are their dreams.

Thanks to the ultra rich and their full proof schemes.

It is a tragedy with more pain to come.

Finance will be Hell, and their wills will be done.
