One year ago today I wrote about my son Justin and how he’s a big street skater. He’s not just into skateboarding, but he’s also into the fashion that goes along with it. I can totally see him working at Zappos in the Zappos Rideshop department one day. It would be a PERFECT job for him.

Sporting the skateboarding look means having a longer hair style, and he’s been going for that look since the 3rd grade. Yes, he’s 14 yrs old and starting high school tomorrow, and he hasn’t had a haircut since the 3rd grade.

All that changed tonight….and this is my big announcement I told you about earlier. (No I’m not pregnant, and no I don’t have mesothelioma as previously asked, you weirdos)

Justin's Hair Before The Big Cut

Justin's Hair 15 inches long

Justin's Hair After The Big Cut

What do you think? OMG I know I’m his mom, but I think he looks so much older, and he’s just so handsome.

Watch out freshman girls! Justin is coming to school tomorrow…breaking hearts, and taking names.

He definitely looks much better with his hair short. He is quite handsome! :) (Being only nine years older than him, I feel slightly creepy saying that! lol)

Jenn – LOL!!! As you get older it gets less creepy. My husband is 10 years younger than me!

What a difference, he looks kind of bemused by it all! Did you have trouble persuading him to have it cut?

We need a before of the front view, too! I love his new, shorter hair. I wish my boys would get into the short hair trend that seems to be coming back!

What prompted him to cut it?

And when I saw your Twitter, I thought that YOUR hair was cut. I freaked on my way over here! :-)

WOW! What a difference! Did he donate to locks of love or something? (I have tried to grow my hair out to donate and never could get it long enough, I would get bothered by the weight.)

WOW! I absolutely love long hair, but I have to admit I really like him in short hair! My son also recently cut off his long hair, although it was no where near as long as Justins! And yes, I cried too…LOL!

wow, I hope you’re planning on donating those 15 inches to Locks of Love! Seems like a lot of investment for nothing, whereas it can help make wigs for kids with cancer.

WOW! Such a handsome boy! Yes, did he donate his hair?

Locks of Love was the original plan, but after watching the video on their site, I’m not so sure his will be accepted. The hair can’t have ANY split ends, and his does :( I guess I could just send it and let them decide.

Wow, what a difference! He looks great with shorter hair. If you want to donate to Locks of Love, just investigate it first (eg http://www.squidoo.com/locksoflove – not my site) – they don’t use a lot of the hair they get for wigs, and the wigs they do make mostly don’t go to children with cancer – in long hair communities, they are a pretty controversial organisation.

We sent our son on his own to get his ginger-fro cut off and he managed to convince his hairdresser to take what must have only been a 1/2″ of hair. He’s due for another visit and school hasn’t started
