As some of you know Michael and I became Pescatarians the second week of May. Basically we are sort of vegetarians, but we eat fish/seafood. We eat dairy to, so that puts us in some weird category, but we are slowly trying to work dairy out also. I can’t even begin to describe how much better I feel since removing beef, pork, and chicken from my diet, and I truly don’t miss it at all. I am a little concerned with losing some of the nutritional value in meats, so I’ve been looking into what types of vitamins I should take.
I came across the website Super Foods which has a lot of great articles on it about healthy living, eating right, and general health tips, including the SuperFoodsRX HealthStyle Challenge. You plug in all your information about your life style and your diet, and it gives you a score, with detailed instructions on what you need to change to become more healthy. I scored a 50, which clearly shows that I need to exercise more, include more whole grains into my diet, and take vitamins.
It’s a challenge everyday for me to do the right thing when it comes to my health, but I just try to remember how much better I feel, and gives me the strength to keep going. What do you do everyday to stay healthy? What should you be doing more of?

I eat very little red meats, I do eat chicken, but very little fish. I am allergic to eggs, but once in awhile I just gotta eat one anyway and I pay for it big time the next day. I take a good Stress Tab vitamin, it helps me to sleep at night, and I also take Flax Seed Oil capsules for my arthritis.

Bree – I could probably give up eggs easily enough, but it’s the CHEESE that I am struggling with. I’m one of those people that buys the funky expensive cheese in the deli at the store. OMG, I LOVE to try the different ones so much!
You can do it, Jules! Put down the cheese! hehehe! Giving up cheese was hard for me, too.
I took the test and while I don’t agree with the food pyramid scheme so much – I did score well. I just need to start exercising, man!
Amy – I need to start too! I was suppose to get a “free” treadmill from a friend, but it’s in their storage unit that they haven’t paid for in a month, so they can’t get in it. I’m ready to pay the $60 just so I can get it!
Good on you Julie for cutting out meat.My wife and I are practically vegetarian but do have dairy products. I have a large Allotment and grow tons of fresh vegetables and the excercise keeps me fit too!

Mark – ahhhh an “Allotment.” Not something we have here in the high desert of the US. I’ll book my flight now for a visit. Know any good travel agents? heh!
If you are eating seafood, even a little dairy, fruits/vegeatbles, grains and beans (some of each per week) you shouldn;t need any vitamens. in fact you are almost certainly eating much better than the average omnivore

I ride my bike to work which takes me 50 minutes which is good, but can be improved.
I should do more weight training and start going to pilates or callanetics classes again.
I’ve restricted alcohol to friday’s and saturday’s (3 glasses maximum). I would love to cut back on cheese too, but what’s pasta without it?
