I got the opportunity to read the book America At Home – A Close-up Look At How We Live and I wanted to share with you guys how awesome it is.

What does the concept of “home” mean to you? Is it the furniture you’ve purchased? Is it the backyard you’ve landscaped? Maybe it’s the actual structure itself, or the people that live inside it. Whatever “home” means to you I know you will find something inside the book America At Home that will move and inspire you.

Created by Rick Smolan and Jennifer Erwitt, the same team that brought you A Day in the Life of America and America 24/7 (one of Oprah Winfrey’s “favorite things” in 2004), it features more than 250 images taken by professional photographers, journalists, noted writers, information researchers and tens of thousands of amateur photographers.

The book is filled with images of Americans living their daily lives. How they work and play, how they interact with friends and family, and where they live. And don’t forget about the family pets. They are included in the book also. It also features a hilarious introduction by Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening.

Another feature that I thought was very unique is that you can create your own custom cover for the book on the website My America At Home. I used this picture of Michael and I while we were hiking in the Valley of Fire back in 2006.

I encourage you to take a look inside the book at My America At Home and see how beautiful the images are. Don’t you think the book, with a custom cover that you create, would make an amazing gift this holiday season?

I saw this book featured on Shutter Sisters and am really jealous you have one! I tried to win one, but didn’t win.

Also, saw the book at Barnes and Noble. It is really a special book. I’m so jealous!

The book looks great. But your comments section has issues, the avatras are blocking the text–also the enable buttn is default on which is annoying as it means I get added to enables mailing system, yet again i.e. it is basically opt-out spam.

That is a very interesting way to sell a book. I am still too cheap though to spend $40 on a book with or without a custom cover.

This sounds like a wonderful book to read! I will have to be on the look out for it (along with the dozens of others on my list!) at the book store.

Thanks for giving it a great review.

That sounds like a book I’d read! It reminds me a bit of the M.I.L.K picture books. I bought one of them a few years ago…

Anyway, these books all had a theme (freedom, friendship, love etc.) and would show pictures from people around the world expressing that feeling.

And since I’m always curious to see how other people live…
