I am still amazed that I can go to any television network website and watch TV series online. I’m amazed I can login to my Netflix account and watch movies. I’m amazed that I can watch almost any video I could ever dream of watching on YouTube. I’m amazed I can download music from my computer and put it on a player that I can take with me. I’m amazed I can share my pictures with family and friends within minutes of taking them.
A little history of my internet life:
I’ve been “online” since 1993. I started out on a 1200 bps modem and the BBS. In about 1995, the “internet” came around and I dialed in with my GEnie account at around $18 bucks an hour. It was really hard to explain to my friends what the hell it was I did on my computer, but once AOL started sending out free CD’s, they all understood.
15 years…15 short years and all this has happened. Even my parents are online. I can’t even imagine what kind of things my children will be able to do with their computers when they are my age. What do you think we’ll be doing with our computers in 15 years?
Tell me your story of computers and the internet.

Oops! Didn’t realise it was going to send a trackback…lol
Tina - see!!! The internet is cool like that! HA!
I have no idea where we are going to be in 15 years. Im thinking theres no computer screen, maybe theres a chip or something in our head, like a hollogram thing at a games place. Im a bit scared of the future to be honest.
I remembered the old days when i used to surf using my 36.6k modem - yeah i surfed later than u
everything was pretty darn slow but i loved the modem games i used to play with a friend of mine..
I learned how to code on a TRS-80 when I was six. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to grow up to marry a computer. This worked well when my parents taught me that all women are actually evil robots who want to steal your sperm.
I remember my dad spending Thanksgiving day teaching me MS-DOS. At least my sisters had to do the cooking and I got out of doing the dishes.
ive been online since i highschool.
The internet is just amazing. It blows my mind.
I remember trying to set up CompuServe for DOS - I had to call in for the installation discs because I was running DOSshell and not Win3.1. When the disc came, my stepmother asked if I got the windows I needed. Definitely have come a long way since then.
18$ an hour???
I’ve been online since like 1997, I was in 8th grade. I’ve never been more excited about the internet since that time although many of these services weren’t around.
Imagine getting to do everything we can do on the Internet…without broadband. Yep, it’ll be a blast watching YouTube on a dialup modem. ![]()
I remember dial up and would like to forget it. I’ve been online for a while and never thought I would enjoy the web so much, but it is a part of my life. I don’t know how to pay a bill anymore unless it’s online.
This is fantastic, I really must write something similar, I remember trying out voip with a friend over 9600bps modems - now that was pain!
