New kitty his name is Spider A few weeks ago I wanted to adopt a couple cats that needed a home, and my family shot down the idea. Then my brother-in-law got a job in Los Angeles, so he was moving. His cat Spider needed a home, so we adopted him.

He is a beautiful cat, which you can’t really tell by the camera phone image, but I haven’t had a good chance to take any pictures with the real camera. He’s afraid of our other cats, and they have been mad-dogging (mad-catting in this case) him constantly. So he has found a few hiding places that we didn’t even know existed.

Who knew there was an opening in the cabinet under the sink, that turned into a cubbyhole behind the other cabinets and the drawers? Who knew that this cat, who had never been at our house, could open the cabinet door and climb in there. We spent DAYS looking for him. It got so bad that we just concluded that he had ran out the door when no one was looking. I was even entertaining the fact that maybe he was a magical cat and had *poofed* himself into thin air…for reals!!

But Spider is a cool cat, and hopefully when the dust settles (or the fur) he will become a great part of our family. I am turning into the old cat lady, I know.

My cat Velvet can’t stand other cats and refuses to allow them to be within three feet of her. She’s always been like this. My boyfriends’ cat Dusty always wants to play with her and ends up freaking her out. He’s twice her size and likes to tackle, she tends to hide in the bed springs when he comes after her. Hopefully you will have better luck, as I hope Dusty is done with chasing Velvet around. :D

Poor kitty. So traumatized by change — our two cats freak out when anything different happens, even when a neighbor stops by to say hello. Enjoy the new family member!
