There is a very large Big Bear California fire burning right now that has burnt over 18,000 acres so far.

Our weather here in Las Vegas had called for sunny clear skies yesterday, but the smoke from the fires drifted here, and turned our sky into a beautiful picturesque scene last night. We went up on the mountain and took some pictures.

Here is a picture of the radar showing no clouds.

But this is what it really looks like in our skies. Yes, that is the sun behind the smoke.

Eerily beautiful.

Unbelievable pictures, too bad that such beauty was caused by so much destruction elsewhere.

Those are amazing photos, Jules!! And yes, I agree with Gorilla - so sad.

But seriously - those pictures are incredible!

I don’t know too much about the situation, but aren’t the fires in California an annual occurance?

Is it nature just keeping things in check or is there actual environmental problems involved with these forest fires, because I hear about them late every summer..
