Justin decided (on only the 7th day of school), that he was going to protest the required ponytails for Science class labs, by standing up in class and proclaiming it was in violation of his constitutional rights. (Oh brother). You truly have no idea what it’s like to be Justin’s mother. His stubbornest just floors me, yet amazes me at the same time.

Two phone calls from the Dean, and one phone call from the Science teacher later, he WILL be wearing a ponytail during Science labs, or he WILL be cutting his hair. It’s a safety issue, not a long hair on guys issue. After an hour long discussion with him when I got home, he understood, and he will comply.

He kept saying that before he made a stand, the Science teacher was calling him out in front of the other kids, making him feel uncomfortable, and that she just didn’t like him. I can’t help but wonder if there is some truth to that. This is the same teacher that said on registration day of 6th grade, “Ohhhh, are you JR’s brother? I hope you’re not as bad as he was.” Yeah, thanks honey, for making my elementary child’s switch into the junior high school sooooo comfortable.

But still…long hair, chemicals, and fire don’t mix. I had to do the parent thing of, “When I was your age, and I was in Science class….blah blah blah” Yes, my hair, neck, and face caught on fire in my 8th grade Science class. I wanted to see what would happen when I poured rubbing alcohol on an open flame.

Hey, it explodes in your face! Not cool!

Justin was quick to laugh at me and say, “OMG mom, you tard!” but he still understood the point I was trying to make, and he made a decision. He’s going to wear a ponytail from here on out, and he’s not cutting his hair ;)

Tell me why I wanted to be a parent again.

Hahahah! But ya know what, good for him for taking a stand. So many people just roll over and never question authority.
Even if authority is right, they cannot go unquestioned or challenged in the case that even one time, they may be wrong. ;)

I knew you’d like that, and I TOTALLY agree…if it wasn’t my child. BAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

That’s a sheep ;)

Kudos to him. At least you know he isn’t going to get into something to follow the crowd. Hugs for you!

I think its kind of awesome that he is his own person. But it definitely sounds likes something I will be headed for in a few years and they are just 4 and 6 now.
