Agua Luca Our friends called and invited us over for some Agua Luca, pineapple juice, and new baby loving. I’m trying to decide if I want to go. I’m trying to decide if I want to wake up with a brain splitting headache tomorrow morning. I’m trying to decide if I want to get out of my jammies. LOL! Yes, it’s 6:30 at night and I’m still in my jammies.

We are so lazy on the weekends, but sometimes it feels good to be lazy on the weekends. After the chaos of the week, it’s nice to just kick back on the couch watching movies all day long, reading magazines, and chilling.

I love holidays, and three-day weekends. In fact, I vote that weekends should always be 3 days long. I also vote for an end to hangovers. Someone needs to come up with a way to not get them, and don’t try to be cute and say, “Don’t drink.”

Does anyone have a secret method that prevents them from getting hangovers? I drink water and take aspirin before I go to bed, but that’s not always a guarantee that I don’t feel like utter crap in the morning.

I’ll sit on the lazy couch with you. I slept til noon today and didn’t get dressed til 4pm. Now I’m lounging on the couch drinking enough wine to lull me back to sleep!

The only cure for hangovers I ever found was not drinking. Seriously. I got them bad.

I don’t have a cure for hangovers, but I hear you on that weekend thing. I love staying in jammies all day long and just hanging out.

Hi Julie,

I came across your blog because I get alerts when Agua Luca comes up online. So while I found it interesting that your friends are drinking Agua Luca, I could not leave without trying to answer your question on avoiding hangovers.

Alcohol is an organic compound that is produced by yeast when it feed on sugars. This particular yeast creates ethanol (alcohol) as a defense mechanism to prevent other bacteria from consuming its food. Alcohol is toxic to the other bacteria and to humans as well (if we drink enough of it) but in moderation it just gets us buzzed.

However, besides ethanol the yeast also creates other organic compounds that are much more toxic to humans. Methanol is one of those compounds that even in small amounts can cause blindness or death. In parts per million, it just causes a really really bad hangover.

This is where distillation come in, a process which separates the toxic chemicals from the drinkable stuff. Going into the distillation process would require a couple of pages so let’s just say that if done properly you get a “clean” spirit that has no methanol in it, and no methanol equals no hangovers.

Cheers,
