I got to chatting with one of my old school hotties from back in the day tonight on ICQ. She was sharing some of the videos that her son had uploaded to YouTube. The conversation quickly turned to just how cool our kids are, and how they’ve turned into these amazing souls, that we marvel at ALL.THE.TIME. We shared a little mommy moment, then got on the subject of the music our kids listen to.
It got me to thinking that much of the music that I love today is the same music I heard as a kid in the backseat of my parent’s car, and our children are no different. Her boys grew up listening to U2, and they love it to this day. Mine grew up with Pink Floyd, and they love it just as much. Music is such an influential thing in so many ways, even when it comes to parenting. If all the things I have done as a parent goes unnoticed, I hope that my love of music has shaped them in some way, just like my parent’s did to me.
To make a long story short…she mentioned a song she liked by one of my favorite bands, and I asked her if she had heard a particular version of it. She hadn’t, so I wanted to share it with her, and you. It’s Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) and Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls) singing Pink Floyd’s, Wish You Were Here for the America - Tribute To Heroes concert.
It’s such an amazing version of a classic song, and when I think about the meaning behind it at the time of 911, it still makes me shed a tear, just like it did the first time I heard it.

I guess I’m too traditional… this version isn’t doing it for me. No one can play this song like David Gilmour. I enjoyed listening to it, though, so thanks for sharing. ![]()

Absolutely beautiful song! I guess I’m a sucker for Durst’s singing voice when he’s not yelling.
