My teenager is on the road learning how to drive as of today. You’ve been warned.

He got his permit today, and he earned his bragging rights by passing it the first time he took it. Of his 4 friends that all recently got it, they all had to take it 4 times before they passed. He was all smiles.

We just logged a 30 minute excursion, and we learned a valuable lesson. We won’t be going out when the sun is going down and blinding him, or me, until he gets more experience behind the wheel.

I found myself saying, “brake, brake, brake” repeatedly.

Duly noted:) I walked in your shoes last summer. Ethan took driver’s ed, so that helped, but we still had to log 50 hours of driving time before he even took the class. Ddin’t make sense to me. I thought he should have taken driver’s ed FIRST, and then we log hours.

He’s had 2 fender benders already. NOT a good deal. But nothing compared to how my heart stopped the othe rnight when I heard a car pull away from our house”too quickly for my taste” — and when I called him to tell him he had better slow it down, I hear all these teen age boys yelling “look out” “you’re an idiot” — and Ethan wasn’t the one driving. He doesn’t go out with “friends” much, so this was a new experience for me.

Hang in there. It DOES get better. And then it gets almost nice because you don’t have to chauffer them all around.

Yay for you being brave enough to go along! I’m too frightened and let Todd do the teaching honors.
