I talked to Justin’s summer school teacher this morning on the phone, and I feel a little bit better about it. I was just going to pull him out, because I felt all this class is about is cramming in a semester of work just to get the passing grade, so he can go on to 8th grade. I actually still feel this way about it, but there is time for him to get caught up, now that she is going to send home some of his worksheets he needs to do over.
The thing is, it’s just about doing as much work as you can, passing the test, and that’s it. This is fine for kids who just need that, but Justin needs help in understanding math. He is struggling with the basics, and that is where he is falling behind. If he can just get through summer school, and pass 7th grade, then 8th grade is a whole new ballpark for him. We are going to have to get him a tutor, either through the school, or through a private business here in town.
I hated Math as a kid also, but I don’t remember having this much of a struggle with it

((Justin)) A tutor can make all the difference in the world. A good one can mesh with his learning style.

You don’t want to hear my story of math as a kid. Aside from the fact that I’m pretty good at math but ugh the older you get the worse it gets. I think its the devils toy. hahahaha

I thought Mike was good at math. Well, getting him a tutor will definitely help. You are right though… he just needs to get through this. Hope he knows he can do it. Keep us informed how he’s doing.

Hi Michelle ~ yes Mike is real good at math, and he was helping him through out the school year, but then when it came to taking test, he just failed them all. He just really hates it
