There is a lot of talk about The Police on their nationwide tour recently. Tickets are selling out within minutes of going on sale. Radio stations all across the country are running their promotions to win tickets, meet the band, have breakfast with Sting, and just about every other marketing idea you can think of. With the release of the Police CD today in the US, and the UK release coming up June 11th, all the rage has been focused on the band, coming back for their 30 year anniversary. And I’m right there swinging from their coat tails.

Like I wrote about a few weeks back, The Police have been around since I was in junior high school, and they have come to be one of the most influential bands of all time. In the early 1980’s there were really just two styles of pop music. You had the group that listened to Lipps, Inc, The Pointer Sisters, Billy Joel, and Michael Jackson. Then you had the group that listened to The Police, Blondie, Elton John, Pat Benatar, and Pink Floyd. I fell into the later group, as did most of my friends. When the 90’s hit it was all about rock alternative, and when I think back on some of the earlier Police tracks, they had that alternative college band vibe to them, and I hear them in a lot of the songs from that era.

Of the 30 tracks on the new Police CD, I would have to say that Wrapped Around Your Finger would have to be my most favorite, as it isn’t easy to pick out just one. Wrapped Around Your Finger came out my senior year of high school on the album Synchronicity. It was a time in my life, I was completely wrapped up in my boyfriend, so it jut fit the scene.

So if you’re in the US, go pick up the CD, and tune into your local radio station for a chance to win tickets to the concerts this summer. Or, click on the image below for your chance to Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live.
