On one of my daily message board reads, I got into a small discussion about American literature and authors. One of the members Osman lives in Turkey, and he’s preparing for his trip to America soon, so he started a discussion asking us Americans who our favorite authors were. I got in kind of late on this one, but I was blown away when I saw that Skeet listed Christopher Moore as one of her favorites. It’s not often that I run into people who even know who he is, so I thought I would blog a bit about him and his books.

He is brilliant and twisted, intelligent and sick. In his lifetime he has worked as a roofer, a grocery clerk, a hotel night auditor, and insurance broker, a waiter, a photographer, and a rock and roll DJ. With such a diverse background it’s totally understandable how he has the imagination he has. From the pantless whaley boys Poynter and Poe in his novel Fluke, to Steve the Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, he hooks me in, and I can’t stop reading from start to finish. If you want to leave reality for a few hours without resorting to illegal substances, I suggest you pick up one of his books and read it. You won’t have to resort to that prescription drug addiction anymore. You won’t stop until you’ve read them all. I guarantee it.

Who is your favorite American author?

You’ve definitely pegged my favorite. I started with Bloodsucking Fiends and it’s still my favorite, but the man has never written a bad book.

Mahalo for the linky!

Wow, great post and great picture. I saw that thread on the boards, but didn’t jump in because I have so many favorites, I don’t know I could pick just one. I haven’t heard of Christopher Moore before, but I’m definitely intrigued now!

Thanks Amy, I bet you would like him. While I was doing my research for my links I needed, I saw he has a new book out also. Just in time for my bed rest :)

I am a fan of Christopher Moore as well. I loved Lamb, and Fluke. I read practical demonkeepng also and haven’t had the chance to read more of his stuff. I didn’t know all those things about C.M. that you had listed. since you asked about authors I also like Virgina Lanier, Laurell K. Hamilton, Nevada Barr, Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, Clive Cussler and many more.

I would have to say that my favorite author would have to be Stephen King. I have never read Christopher Moore, but you guys are sure making me want too.

Drew ~ Lamb was such a great book! Loved it. I read something the other day about Kathy Reichs, and I wrote that one down to check out the next time I’m at the book store.

I especially love at the end of fluke where it’s talking about ways to help the environment & he says something like, or you can just yell randomly, shut up & stop killing whales.

YES!

“Would you like fries with that?”
“Shut up and stop killing whales”
“Thank you. Drive through please”

HAHAHAHAHA!
