There are some of you that may remember my best friend Lisa. And there are some of you that have no clue who I am talking about. Here’s a little background for those who don’t know her, or don’t remember how we became best friends.

We met at an online message board back in 1998. We both hung out on the music board and the fashion board, and we quickly discovered that we only lived like 10 miles apart. A lot of people were doing that IRL (in-real-life) thing at the time, and it kind of freaked me out a little. We talked for many days on that board and soon realized that our lives were so similar that we just had to meet IRL. I am very shy around new people, but once I get to know them, my extroverted side comes out, and never retracts again.
Our meeting? It took place at a well lit mall in the middle of the day.
This was my first ever IRL and I was so nervous and scared, and all the things that comes with that first time meeting someone you have talked to online. I was worried if my hair was done right, and if my makeup was just so. I was worried how I dressed even. After all, we’d talked fashion for months before meeting, and I wanted to look my best!! I was so worried that I didn’t even bring my kids! I purposely choose a time when my kids would be in school, so the crazy lady wouldn’t try to steal them from me.

I overcame my fear and met the most incredible person ever! We are so similar, and our lives are almost so completely aligned, that to this day we both agree, it was some sort of destiny that brought us together. Since that meeting back in 1998, we have both gone through the worst times of our lives together. But we’ve been there for each other, and we’re both in a very happy place right now. I’m a newlywed, and she’s going to be getting married this year!

So can you play along? Write a post on your blog all about your best friend. How you met, and what makes that person so special. Make sure to link back to this post in your blog post. Leave the URL in my comments, and I’ll hook you up with a special post dedicated to you and your best friend with lots of linky love.
You have a best friend right? Then get to writing and tell me about them!

I felt the same way when I met a friend I talked to online. It was such a weird feeling! I made sure not to have my kid with me, either. I wasn’t even going to put him in that predicament. We met at the mall, and hung out a while after that Funny how that works, eh? It’s pretty scary meeting people from the Internet. I always meet in a public place so there are witnesses just in case.
