Today is the big day for the Sophomores in our school district. Yes, that includes my oldest son J.R. They are all taking the High School Proficiency Exams. The three topics they cover are Math, Reading, and Science, and you have to pass this test to get your high school diploma. They start administering the test when the kids are in 10th grade, so they basically have three years (three chances) to take the test and pass by the time graduation rolls around. It is totally possible that he could pass today, and never need to take it again. That would be in an ideal world, but I have heard it’s not very likely to happen.
He actually told me last night, and this morning, that he was nervous. This isn’t like him. He’s a good test taker. He is known to have all zeros on homework and assignments, then get a 100% on that same class final exam. I can understand his nervousness though. If you don’t pass, you don’t graduate from high school. It’s that simple, and that can bring on the pressure. It’s been hard to concentrate on anything today. I just keep thinking about him, and I hope he has relaxed. 2:00PM can’t come quick enough today. I can’t wait to pick up my carpool group and hear all about it.
