I am truly ashamed to say that I have lived in my neighborhood for 3 years coming up in August, and I have never even stepped foot on the nice walking trail the parks and recreation department built just a block over. Today I was sitting on the couch working on a puzzle in my word search book and Michael was on the computer. I said, “Hey, let’s go walk the trail.” He said, “okay, let’s go.”

So off we went. It’s really nice, and the trees planted a long the way must have all been donated by people in memory of loved ones, because they all had plaques, and flowers planted around them. It was a very nice touch and we spent some time reading them along the way. I wore my pedometer and it was 4.66 miles round-trip. Good times!

Prevention magazine just named Henderson, NV as #6 in The Best Walking Cities of 2007.

“Our parks and trails system in Henderson provides an incredible opportunity for our people to go out and enjoy the beauty of our desert environment,” said Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson. “We’ve been diligent to incorporate interconnectivity as a theme throughout the city, and it’s nice to be recognized as a safe and friendly place for people to get out and live a healthier lifestyle.”

I’m glad we finally got out and tried the trail today. We’re going to make it a weekly routine.
