I pulled up to the junior high today to pick up my son and the place is swarming with cops, and news vans. I found a place to park and got out to see what was going on, and I was just as confused as any other parent. The news people were not talking, and the cops were not talking. So I stood there, for what seemed like an hour but was actually only about 3 minutes, just waiting to see my son come out safely. He finally came out, and he had a letter from the school explaining that a 13 yr old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted yesterday after school. I found a small story on it when I got back home:
Cops Search For Man Who Sexually Assaulted Girl, 13
I drive through that intersection every day between picking up my son from the junior high and picking up my other son at the high school. There is a park right there, and I dropped my son off there after school to skateboard with his friends yesterday, right about the same time the abduction occured according to the school letter. I can’t help but think I may have saw the girl, or I may have saw the suspect. I am just running the drive over and over in my head trying to remember if I saw anything, but nothing is coming up. I quizzed Justin, and he doesn’t remember seeing anything either.
Oh this whole thing has me so upset. In fact, just today, at that same intersection, we saw two cops that had a small gray pickup pulled over. I hope that it was him, and he has been caught. Thank goodness the girl is safe, but please keep this as a reminder in your head. Watch your kids, and watch others kids. Keep your eyes open when you see kids walking home from school. Is does take a village to raise kids, and we can all help by being aware, and watching out for them.

It is so scary when the ugly parts of the world invade what we consider to be safe. I am so glad that your boys are safe.

It doesn’t mater how old our kids get, we hear these stories and think it could have been MY child.
Don’t beat yourself up over not being able to recall every detail, sometimes a few days later, something pops into your head. You may just recall seeing something a few days from now if you just relax and not worry over it.
I know how you feel though, something like this happened when my boys were in elementary school and i hated having to drop them off at school everyday. I was worried sick for weeks.
Even now as they are teens, I hear these stories and worry about my boys.

Wow, that is scary and I would do the same thing, running it over and over in my head. We had a kid from our church beat up in front of our house when we were at work. When I found out about it I felt ill and kept thinking, “If only…”
Hugs to you and your sons.
