They have a new tardy policy at the junior high school that I am unhappy with. Justin doesn’t have a problem with tardiness, but that still doesn’t matter. The new policy is a little too strict and I am against it.
10 tardies and your children are expelled from school.
Does that seem a little excessive to you? The school is saying that this year they have seen an abundance of tardiness and they had to make the penalty worse to get the kids to school on time. It seems way too excessive to me and I think I have a good argument against it.
The entire street from a mile north of the junior high school to a mile south of the school has been ONE LANE the entire school year. What normally is FOUR LANES coming and going has been torn up the entire year while the city installs new sewage pipes. They have one woman with a stop/slow sign directing people through this maze for close to two miles every morning during rush hour school traffic.
I’m sure the teachers and administration are not bothered by this construction because they arrive to the school earlier in the morning when all the parents and kids are still at home. There are 1500 kids that go to that school and I would say that 90% of them get a ride to school. I hardly ever see kids walking or on bikes. And especially now with the traffic congested the way it is. The crosswalks have no guards at them, and they have become dangerous for kids to cross.
And I’m sure you are thinking that this is second semester and all the parents are aware of the traffic so they should be compensating by leaving earlier in the morning. Trust me, we are. I leave 30 minutes before the bell rings to drive 5 blocks and we just barely make it there. Every morning the road is a little different and the maze gets more complicated.
What about those mornings when you all wake up late and you are scrambling to get ready. How many kids do you think are just going to stay home from school and take the absent as opposed to the tardy? The penalty for absences is no where near that of a tardy. I know mine sure would try to do that. I just think it’s ridiculous and I plan on voicing my opinion at the meeting the parents are calling to oppose this new rule.
That is a COMPLETELY lame policy. Ugh!!! That would never fly for us. Kayley’s school is 25 miles away, because her dad moved her to a new district. She’s often tardy at least one day of every week she’s with us. And sorry, motherfuckers, 25 miles in Denver in rush hour traffic in the winter means we’re gonna be LATE sometimes!
“I leave 30 minutes before the bell rings to drive 5 blocks”
You drive them FIVE BLOCKS?! WTF?? It has to be faster to walk than drive.
I agree. I can’t believe that the school doesn’t realize that the attendence will go down. And they lost money when kids aren’t in school. Tardies don’t cost them anything.
At Brady’s school if you are five minutes late for a class, it’s an absence. Ten absences in a semester and you get reported to the juvenile authorities. Fucking Nazi’s.
I definitely think that’s excessive. When I was in high school they changed their attendance policy to six absences. Six tardies could potentially lose you credit in the class you were tardy for, not get you expelled from school.
And with that construction? They should definitely be a little more accomodating!
