Have you ever wondered where your favorite DJ/VJ’s of radio and MTV ended up after they were long gone and off the airways?

Having Sirius Radio have brought all my favorites back to life for me. Before they even say their names I instantly recognize their voices. Music is my existence. Without it there is no life. And I truly believe this.

Here’s a list of my long gone favorites that have since resurrected on my satellite radio:

martha quinn

Martha Quinn rocked my MTV in 1981 and I was thrilled to find her on the Big 80’s station.

nina blackwood

Nina Blackwood jammed MTV in 1981 as well. She’s also on Big 80’s station.

richard blade

Richard Blade rocked the airways at KROQ in Los Angeles. He can now be heard on 1st Wave

wolfman jack

Wolfman Jack
gets an honorable mention in my DJ entry. Although he’s not a DJ on Sirius radio he probably would have been if he was still alive.

I would stay up late on Friday nights to watch him on
The Midnight Special. I vividly remember my mom coming into my room and telling me to turn off the TV as it was late. I would wait for her to go to sleep then turn my TV back on with the volume real low. Then I would sit on the floor and position my ear to the speaker so I could hear it but still see it…kind of. This happened for about a month straight until she realized that no matter what she said I was going to watch this show. Then I got to sit on my bed and watch it in all it’s black and white glory.

I found out something about him that I didn’t know before and it really touched me. Okay, it made me cry…

The day before his death, he had finished broadcasting his last live radio program, a weekly program nationally syndicated from Planet Hollywood in downtown Washington, D.C. Wolfman Jack said that night, “I can’t wait to get home and give Lou a hug, I haven’t missed her this much in years.” Wolfman’s wife did get that hug. She met Wolfman at the door of their home as he arrived from the airport. He opened his arms wide, smiled and said “One more time.” As Lou went to hug him, Wolfman collapsed in her arms, and died.

So there you have it. The DJ’s that rocked my world and my life. Are there any DJ’s that you would love to hear on the airways again?

I’ve never had a “relationship” with any DJs, probably because I don’t listen to the radio that much AND I didn’t grow up with MTV. But this is a great list! I recognize Martha Quinn, so I guess I am not too behind on pop culture.

That’s a sad story! But at least he got to her before he died. It’s so funny how people we’ve never met can touch our lives.

I used to get to stay up and watch Midnight Special for a special treat once in a while. Man, I had totally forgotten about that. I didn’t know that story about Wolfman Jack. How sad, but at least he got to give her a hug. I loved it when MTV had VJs. That original set was pretty cool.

The old DJs knew how to play and talk about the music without all the wild theatrics of today’s DJs!

My favorites were DJs at Pacific radio, a free radio station in Houston in the 60s. They played music that did not get air time anywhere else.

The next Postie Carnival, held March 19th, will be hosted at CoolAdzine for Marketers (http://CoolAdzine.blogspot.com). The theme is March Holidays and Celebrations.

Here are just a few celebrations:

* Women’s History Month
* International Women’s Day
* St. Patrick’s Day
* First Day of Spring
* Baseball
* Spring Equinox
* Feast of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
* Festival of Trees
* Lady Day
* Rites of Spring

Here are some birthdays:

* Dr. Suess
* Albert Einstein
* Houdini
* Alexander G. Bell

Of course, your holiday or birthday is not listed, but is welcome. Help me make this a wonderful carnival.

Thanks!

CyberCelt

I had huge crushes on a couple of local DJs in New Orleans in the sixties. My friend and I would win contests pretty regularly and would take the bus downtown to go pick up our records or tee shirts or whatever. We always timed our visits to arrive just as either CC or Lou was getting off so we could talk to them in the lobby of th eradio station and slobber at their feet, lol!

Love the Wolfman story. I had never heard it before, but it sounds just so right for him, doeasn’t it?
