I absolutely crave ice! I love to put it in a glass by itself and munch away on it. Everyone knows the “myth” about chewing ice, but I can say that is not a problem ;)

I started poking around the internet searching for why people chew ice.

And I found it! I have a eating disorder called Pica.

Pica: Individuals presenting with pica have been reported to mouth and/or ingest a wide variety of nonfood substances, including, but not limited to, clay, dirt, sand, stones, pebbles, hair, feces, lead, laundry starch, vinyl gloves, plastic, pencil erasers, ice, fingernails, paper, paint chips, coal, chalk, wood, plaster, light bulbs, needles, string, and burnt matches.

Damn those light bulbs and vinyl gloves, with a side of burnt matches makes a great breakfast! I also eat the neighbors landscaping for a snack.

What myth is that???

Heh, when I was a toddler I used to shove rose hips in my mouth and walk around looking like a chipmunk! I think they better add that to the list. Who’s up for a laundry starch and a vinyl glove sandwich? On burnt toast of course.

FWIW, I have NEVER craved ice, ever – I can’t even stand the way it feels when it clicks against my teeth. But – during this last pregnancy, I was positively OBSESSED with it. I’d buy bags of the “tater tot” ice at Sonic and just eat it all day. I found out later that this is a sign of iron deficiency – I don’t know why your body craves ICE, but it does. Anyway – I was anemic and had no idea, and I ended up having to take tons of iron supplements and almost needed a transfusion when I gave birth. Hope you’re taking a daily multivitamin!
